Shipping by distance

You must add a proper and valid address for your business location in your daapia.com account for this to work. Buyers also have to enter a valid shipping address.

Enabling the shipping by distance settings

Shipping by distance allows you to define shipping fees based on the distance you are to ship an order. Follow the below procedure to configure shipping by distance. Select “Shipping by Distance” from the shipping type drop down box.

Basic shipping by distance settings

1. Enter a value for “Default Cost”. This defines the minimum shipping price for all your products irrespective of the distance to which you will be shipping. Leave this field blank if you do not wish to define default shipping fee, or you wish to define free shipping for some or all locations.
2. Enter a value for “Max Distance” to define the maximum distance you can ship orders. Leave blank to define unlimited shipping distance.
3. Enter a value for “Free Shipping Minimum Order Amount” if you want to offer free shipping only when the purchase amount for a single order reaches or exceeds a certain minimum amount. For example, if you enter 500.00 in this field, free shipping will only be available when a customer’s order value is ₵500.00 or higher. If you want to offer free shipping no matter the shipping distance, enter 0.00 in this field.
4. Check “Enable Local Pickup” if you want to give the option to your customers to pick up the products from your physical store. Make sure to give accurate location information for your store if you enable this option.
5. Enter a value for “Local Pickup Cost” if for some reason you wish to charge shipping for local pickups, otherwise leave blank.

Define shipping fees based on “Distance-Cost Rules”

This option allows you to define shipping fees based on different distance ranges. The “Distance up to” setting allows you to define shipping fees for distances below and including a specified value. For example, if you enter a value of 50 for distance and a value of 40.00 for cost, the shipping fee for “Distance-Cost Rules” will be ₵40.00 if the shipping distance is 50km or less. With this setting, you can define different prices for different distance ranges. For example, If you define three “Distance up to” settings for

1. Distance up to 5km, Cost = ₵10.00
2. Distance up to 10km, Cost = ₵30.00
3. Distance up to 20km, Cost = ₵50.00,

a “Distance-Cost Rules” shipping fee of
₵10.00 will be assigned to shipping distances 5km and below
₵30.00 will be assigned to shipping distances above 5km and up to 10km

₵50.00 will be assigned to shipping distances above 10km and up to 20km.

The “Distance more than” setting allows you to define shipping fees for distances exceeding a specified value. For example, if you enter a value of 20 for distance and a value of 70.00 for cost, the shipping fee for “Distance-Cost Rules” will be ₵70.00 if the shipping distance is more than 20km.

You should combine the “Distance up to” and “Distance more than” settings to define a full range shipping fees to cover all possible distances.

To configure shipping fees based on “Distance-Cost Rules”,

1. Select “Distance up to” from the “Distance Rule” drop down.
2. Enter a value for “Distance” that marks the upper limit of the lowest range of distances you wish to define.
3. Enter a value for “Cost” that marks the lowest shipping cost for “Distance-Cost Rules”.
4. Click the circled plus icon inside the “Distance-Cost Rules” box (see the image below) and repeat steps 1 to 3 for the next range of weights and the corresponding shipping cost.
5. Repeat steps 1 to 4 until you have defined all distance ranges you think orders will normally fall within.
6. Now, click the circled plus icon inside the “Distance-Cost Rules” box (see the image below) again.
7. Select “Distance more than” from the “Distance Rule” drop down.
8. Enter the highest value you enter for “Distance up to”. This caters for any distances outside of the ranges you defined for “Distance up to”.

When configuring the “Distance-Cost Rules” option, you must define rules for both “Distance up to” and “Distance more than”. Any one left undefined will be consider free shipping.

When all is set up and done, click the “Save” button at the bottom right corner to update your settings (you can click the “Save” button at any point during the setup).

Tips

1. You should test all settings to make sure they function the way you intended.
2. When an instruction tells you to leave a field blank, really leave it blank. Do not enter 0 or 0.00 in that field. Use the delete or backspace key to clear out any entry you have made in that field. Note that many fields have a place holder of 0.00. Don’t worry about it if you have cleared out your own entry.
3. To define free shipping, enter 0.00 in the “Free Shipping Minimum Order Amount” field and clear out all other fields in the specific shipping type’s settings.
