Enabling shipping by country

Shipping by country allows you to define shipping rules for different countries and divisions within the countries independently, e.g. you can define shipping fees for Ghana as a whole or define different shipping fees for each region of Ghana. Select “Shipping by Country” from the shipping type drop down box.

Base shipping fees

The first three settings in this section allow you to define base shipping rates that apply irrespective of country. Their combined value can be seen as the minimum shipping charge no matter where you ship to. Additional fees can be configured in the Country-wide and region-level settings. If you do not wish to define base shipping fees, you should leave the fields in this section blank.

1. Enter a value for “Default Shipping Price”. This defines the minimum shipping price for all your products irrespective of where you will be shipping to. Leave this field blank if you do not wish to define default shipping fee, or you wish to define free shipping for some or all locations.
   
   
2. Enter a value for “Per Product Additional Price” if you want to charge shipping for every different product a customer buys. For example, a customer buys a camera, a laptop and a laptop bag and you have 20.00 in the Default Shipping Price field, 10.00 in the “Per Product Additional Price” field, the customer’s base shipping fee will amount to ₵40.00, i.e.
   
   ₵20.00 Default Shipping Price for camera
   + ₵10.00 Per Product Additional Price for laptop
   + ₵10.00 Per Product Additional Price for laptop bag
   
   Leave this field blank if you want to apply only the Default Shipping Price to all the items, in which case the customer’s base shipping fee will be only ₵20.00. This field is useful if you will ship each different item separately, or if the shipping company you use charges that way.
   
   
3. Enter a value for “Per Qty Additional Price” if you want to charge every additional product if the customer buys more than one of each product. For example if the customer buys three cameras and you enter 20.00 in the Default Shipping Price field and 5.00 in the Per Qty Additional Price field, the customer’s base shipping fee will be ₵30.00, i.e.
   
   ₵20.00 Default Shipping Price for the first camera
   + ₵5.00 Per Qty Additional Price for the second camera
   + ₵5.00 Per Qty Additional Price for the third camera
   
   Leave this field blank if you want to apply only the Default Shipping Price to all the items, in which case the customer’s base shipping fee will be only ₵20.00. This field is useful if you will ship each different item separately, or if the shipping company you use charges that way.
   
   Now, if your customer bought 3 cameras, 3 laptops and 3 laptop bags, and you enter 20.00 in the Default Shipping Price field, 10.00 in the Per Product Additional Price field and 5.00 in the Per Qty Additional Price field, their base shipping fee will be ₵70.00, i.e.
   
   ₵20.00 Default Shipping Price for the first camera
   + ₵10.00 Per Product Additional Price for first laptop
   + ₵10.00 Per Product Additional Price for first camera bag
   + ₵5.00 Per Qty Additional Price for second camera
   + ₵5.00 Per Qty Additional Price for third camera
   + ₵5.00 Per Qty Additional Price for second laptop
   + ₵5.00 Per Qty Additional Price for third laptop
   + ₵5.00 Per Qty Additional Price for second laptop bag
   + ₵5.00 Per Qty Additional Price for third laptop bag
   
   Fill out only the Default Shipping Price field if you will not be separately shipping items bought in a single order. Leave the other fields blank.
   

Base shipping settings

4. Enter a value for “Free Shipping Minimum Order Amount” if you want to offer free shipping only when the purchase amount for a single order reaches or exceeds a certain minimum amount. For example, if you enter 500.00 in this field, free shipping will only be available when a customer’s order value is ₵500.00 or higher. If you want to offer free shipping no matter the number of products purchased and no matter where you ship to, enter 0.00 in this field and leave all other fields blank. You may still enter a value for Local Pickup Cost, though.
   
   
5. Check “Enable Local Pickup” if you want to give the option to your customers to pick up the products from your physical store. Make sure to give accurate location information for your store if you enable this option.
   
   
6. Enter a value for “Local Pickup Cost” if for some reason you wish to charge shipping for local pickups, otherwise leave blank.
   
   
7. From the “Ships from” drop down, choose the country you will be shipping your products from. The default is Ghana.
   

Country-wide shipping fees

You can define additional shipping fees for each country you ship to. These fees will be added to the base shipping fees defined earlier. If no base shipping fees were defined, only country-wide shipping fees will be applied. To add shipping fees that apply to any part of a specific country you ship to, configure the “Shipping Rates by Country” section.

1. From the “Country” drop down, choose a country to configure shipping fees for.
2. Enter a value in the “Cost” field.
3. If you wish to add more countries, click the circled plus icon below the “State Shipping Rates” box and repeat steps 1 and 2.

Note that country-wide shipping fees override state/region-level shipping fees. If you intend defining state/region-level shipping fees, leave the cost field blank.

State/Region-level shipping fees

You can define separate shipping fees for each state/region of a country that you ship to. To do this, configure the “State Shipping Rates” section.

1. From the “Country” drop down, choose a country to configure shipping fees for.
2. Select a state/region in the “State” field.
3. Enter the fee in the “Cost” field.
4. To configure shipping for another state/region, click the circled plus icon inside the “State Shipping Rates” box and repeat steps 1 and 2.

Note that country-wide shipping fees override state/region-level shipping fees. If you have a value for country-wide shipping cost, defining state/region-level shipping costs will have no effect.

When all is set up and done, click the “Save” button at the bottom right corner to update your settings (you can click the “Save” button at any point during the setup).

Tips

1. You should test all settings to make sure they function the way you intended.
2. When an instruction tells you to leave a field blank, really leave it blank. Do not enter 0 or 0.00 in that field. Use the delete or backspace key to clear out any entry you have made in that field. Note that many fields have a place holder of 0.00. Don’t worry about it if you have cleared out your own entry.
3. To define free shipping, enter 0.00 in the “Free Shipping Minimum Order Amount” field and clear out all other fields in the specific shipping type’s settings.
